A Guide to Abu Dhabi Through a Child’s Eyes: 7 Days of Fun and Adventure!
Abu Dhabi is a city that truly knows what children need to be happy! The capital of the UAE is a real wonderland, where you can become an astronaut, a racing driver, or a superhero, make new friends, or find yourself inside the story of a favorite movie or game.
As part of the Abu Dhabi Kid-Recommended summer campaign, Abu Dhabi is revealed through children’s eyes, and we decided to show you what the city looks like from the perspective of young travelers. Today you will meet a boy named Maksat, who visited this city for the first time. He will share how, together with his family, he discovered the magic of science, rode the world’s largest tornado slide, and met superheroes thanks to his parents, who work at Kazunion.
The Clay Studio and an amazing museum
On the first day, they went to a museum, and Maksat was amazed by the scale of the city. “Our morning in the capital of the Emirates began with a visit to Studio Clay — a studio where you can create your own clay pottery. Can you imagine, I made a cup and gave it to my mom! I really liked it because I love sculpting.”
Then Maksat visited the Louvre Abu Dhabi. He did not know what to expect, but he was pleasantly surprised, because it turned out to be not just a museum with paintings and antiques, but also a place with a children’s zone. There, the kids completed tasks, sculpted, and took part in a drawing workshop, and time flew by unnoticed.
Later, they visited the Sadu craft workshop at Qasr Al Hosn, where they showed how authentic Arabian carpets are made. Maksat even tried weaving himself and made a small rug with a traditional pattern, which he now keeps at home.
Impressions from Warner Bros. and the magic of technology
On the second day, the family headed to Warner Bros. World — it felt like stepping into a cartoon! The rides, meetings with Batman, Superman, and even Granny from Looney Tunes made a huge impression on him. He spent another half an hour telling his dad about how much he wanted to go back there again.
Later, they visited the TeamLab Phenomena museum, where real magic is created through science. “You could touch the light, and it would start moving like a flame. I felt like a real magician!” Maksat recalled.
That evening, the family went to ZOI Café. The space smelled of warm bread, and the cozy feeling came from white walls, soft chairs, and flowers on every table. Maksat was served a strawberry cake that was so delicious he did not want to share even a single bite.
Surfing and beach relaxation
This day was special for Maksat, as he tried surfing for the first time at Surf Abu Dhabi. Although he was not very confident standing on the board, he happily fell into the water: “The waves were huge, and I was on a board! I was a little scared, but I felt like a real surfer.”
After surfing, the family headed to Saadiyat Beach Club. Soft sand and warm sea created perfect conditions for relaxation. They played with a ball, swam, rode water skateboards, and enjoyed the swimming pool, which seemed endless.
In the evening, they visited NAPO Pizzeria, where they felt as if they were guests of an Italian family in Naples. Maksat tried a heart-shaped pizza, which he liked very much.
Ancient traditions and market adventures
A visit to Heritage Village immersed Maksat in the atmosphere of the past. He saw how people lived in Abu Dhabi many years ago and even tried cooking something on a traditional stove. Craftsmen demonstrated carpet weaving and pottery making and invited visitors to play musical instruments such as the qanun and the rababa.
Next came a trip to Qasr Al Muwaiji and Jahili Fort. These were fortresses where rulers and sheikhs once lived. Maksat was especially fascinated by the ancient weapons, and archery became a truly exciting experience.
After that, he visited Souk World Trade Centre — a real Arabian market where you can find souvenirs, jewelry, and taste Turkish delight. There he chose a small lamp in an Arabic style, as if taken from an Aladdin fairy tale. “When the lamp lights up,” Maksat said, “patterns appear on the walls, like in a magical palace. That feeling transported me straight into a fairy tale.”
Yas Waterworld
Maksat and his family spent the day at Yas Waterworld — one of the largest water parks in the region. They enjoyed more than 45 slides and attractions, and the park’s pearl-diving theme created the atmosphere of an Eastern fairy tale.
They especially loved the giant tornado slide, which they rode together as a family, as well as the longest water roller coaster in the region — the speed there is truly breathtaking. The wave pool was also a favorite for the whole family, with waves that felt just like the real sea.
Shopping and new experiences
On the sixth day, the family visited the huge Yas Mall, where you can find everything from toys to clothing. Maksat chose a T-shirt with a superhero on it and several toys for his friends, while his mom picked out a beautiful dress. Everyone was happy, as the purchases turned out to be truly enjoyable.
After that, the travelers headed to Bab Al Nojoom Hudayriyat. There, they went kayaking among birds, played giant Jenga and volleyball. Maksat built sandcastles, roasted marshmallows by the campfire, and watched a movie under the stars. Meanwhile, his dad relaxed on the shore, enjoying the sound of the sea.
Beach time and packing up
On the last day, Maksat spent time at the beach. He swam, played in the sand, and rode a water skateboard. No one was in a hurry, allowing themselves to enjoy the final moments of the vacation.
Packing turned out to be a challenge, as there was not enough space for all the souvenirs and gifts. So his parents had to buy another suitcase. Now Maksat has a lamp, a rug, T-shirts, and toys. After returning home, he spent a long time admiring his new treasures.
“This vacation was simply incredible,” Maksat shared. “I will remember all the adventures in Abu Dhabi. Next summer, I definitely want to come back here again!”
